Start Date: Early December

Contract Length: Initial 2-month trial, followed by a 1-year contract

Location: Remote, with regular in-person events across the Portland metro area

Reports to: ElectrifyPDX Program Manager

About our Program: ElectrifyPDX is a five-year campaign working to accelerate energy-efficient home electrification across Portland. We aim to shift public opinion, provide actionable resources, and foster a visible movement toward clean energy. Our core efforts focus on:

  • Education: Hosting events and presentations, publishing a newsletter, sharing resources like contractor lists and no-cost upgrade options, and organizing the annual Electrify Portland! Home Electrification Fair.
  • Illumination: Certifying homes that transition to clean energy and promoting visible community action through our yard signage program.
  • Connection: Prioritizing outreach to low- and moderate-income (LMI) households to connect them with incentives, rebates, and trusted local programs and organizations.

About the Role: We’re hiring an Outreach Coordinator to build community relationships, expand awareness of home electrification, and increase the use of ElectrifyPDX’s free resources. The coordinator will represent our mission at public events, field questions about home electrification, connect people with available programs and coaches, support partnerships, and ensure culturally relevant outreach—especially to LMI communities.

We are a small but mighty non-profit organization. This is one of two staff positions, supported by the co-founders and board. The ideal candidate is a confident public speaker, relationship-builder, and proactive team player who enjoys engaging diverse communities.

Position Summary: To grow our culturally-appropriate outreach and education capacity, ElectrifyPDX is contracting with a dedicated outreach coordinator. The coordinator will help us to meet our goal of reaching people where they are, both physically and culturally, as we table at fairs and present to neighborhood associations, faith communities, schools, community groups and more. There will be a specific focus on partnering with organizations working with low/moderate income residents, connecting them with information about community solar, rebates, incentives, and low/no-cost programs that can help people upgrade their homes.

The Outreach Coordinator is a team player who demonstrates a passion for connecting and networking in the community. Must have outstanding customer service skills and strong communication skills to speak in front of large and small groups, both in-person and virtually. The role requires some working knowledge of home electrification and/or energy efficiency, and the applicant must enjoy communicating technical information in ways that are accessible to the general public. The position requires the ability to work independently with drive, enthusiasm, creativity, and flexibility.

The Outreach Coordinator leads the effort to promote locally available resources to a wide variety of stakeholders. The coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring ElectrifyPDX’s outreach activities to build awareness of home electrification, support enrollment in our signage program, and increase utilization of our no-cost electrification resource hub. This will include recruiting and managing a small team of ambassadors who can table at events to share resources and information with the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner cultivation (30%):
    • Develop and implement a community outreach plan with measurable goals
    • Collaborate with the Program Manager to assess outcomes and develop new outreach strategies and content
    • Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations and other collaborators to build awareness of ElectrifyPDX and to increase our impact across our service area
  • Outreach management and admin (30%):
    • Identify outreach and tabling opportunities, coordinate staffing and logistics, and maintain an event calendar
    • Recruit, train, and support a small ambassador team for outreach and tabling
    • Tailor presentation materials to different audiences
    • Participate in weekly internal staff meetings
  • Direct public outreach (40%):
    • Present to non-profits, public and private spaces, neighborhood and community settings in order to connect with eligible families and providers who may benefit from ElectrifyPDX resources (10–20 presentations/year; some evenings/weekends required)
    • Table at public events (e.g., Sunday Parkways; expected 10+ events annually, some evenings/weekends required)

Key Qualifications & Experience:

We value growth-minded applicants—if you don’t meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.

  • Strong communication and public speaking skills
  • Experience engaging diverse communities across race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background
  • Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
  • Able to manage multiple projects and work independently
  • Collaborative and flexible team player
  • Working knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and/or home electrification
  • Committed to ElectrifyPDX’s mission and community-driven approach
  • Comfortable with social media, email, spreadsheets, and basic CMS tools (Squarespace, WordPress)

Preferred but not required:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Basic graphic design skills (i.e. Canva)

Working conditions:

This is a part-time position with flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends. Depending on the scheduled events, activities, and meetings per week, hours may vary between 10-24 hours. The Outreach Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Program Manager but will be expected to work independently and track their hours for monthly invoicing. This role does require the use of a car for transportation to and from events in the Portland area, including transporting some tabling equipment.
